Medieval Influences

Dove's Eyes

This painting is called ‘Thou Hast Dove’s Eyes’.

I really enjoy the Pre Raphaelite artists, Byrne-Jones, Waterhouse, and several others.  I also love the work of Maxfield Parrish–his work has the same look. Early in my artistic journey I started experimenting and soon found that this style had everything that I wanted to emulate.  What excited me was the possibility of using symbolism and creating a story within the paintings.  I have painted several paintings in this style, a style that when done properly, is very time consuming.  I put detail into every little leaf, every jewel, every feather——-Some of my large, detailed paintings have taken up to 4 months to complete.

I will always love the Medieval style, and will probably create more paintings using these techniques.

At this time—2013-I find myself exploring a lot.  I am experimenting with mixed media, the art nouveau style, etc.  It is very much a learning time once again.  In my next journal writings I will talk about what I have been learning and creating as I go through these changes.
